Description

The innovative GreenGuard Horse Grazing Muzzle is perfect for horses that need extra help reducing their food intake. The patented design of the GreenGuard grazing muzzle, with no opening in the centre, does not allow horses to graze easily through the middle of the muzzle. The design also allows for easy breathing and drinking while being worn.

With multiple intake spots (front, side, and back) the horse has to work to get food (similar to using a slow feed hay net) and it also reduces the wear on the muzzle in a single place.  Pressure points on the horses nose can impact their air intake, so the square rigid design of the Greenguard grazing muzzle allows a lot of room across the nostril of the horse, perfect for horses as it does not sit on the nostril, allowing complete air flow to the nose.

With four straps, the muzzle is completely adjustable to the length of nose of your horse, and if they happen to break them, are easily replaced.

***GreenGuard Breakaway Halter can be purchased separately here***

Sizes Mini/small pony (3.5 inch), pony/small cob (4 inch) and horse/large horse (5 inch) – Use the bit size of your horse as a guide (not their halter size).

Other key features:
  • Rigid design means it is less likely to rub
  • Does not absorb water like web muzzles so reduces chance of rubbing
  • More even wear over time as it has multiple holes (the horse does not focus on just the one hole in the middle)

Safety Information
GRAZING MUZZLE USE AND RISK OF TEETH WEAR: ALL GRAZING MUZZLES POSE SOME RISK OF TEETH WEAR due to the fact that horses’ teeth may rub against the interior surface of the muzzle. Risk for teeth wear is increased in pastures with sandy and/or coarse soil and in horses with misaligned teeth, those that crib, windsuck, and/or chew wood, older horses, and horses that are not receiving proper or regular dental care. While using a grazing muzzle, you should check your horse’s front teeth weekly and if there are any signs of abnormal wear, discontinue use of the muzzle.

PLEASE NOTE: The grazing muzzle will not prevent founder or laminitic episodes from happening. The muzzle is designed to reduce grass intake. The Greenguard grazing muzzle is not recommended for use when the grass is shorter than 2 inches in length.
All grazing muzzles can potentially wear on your horse/pony teeth – we recommend checking teeth weekly and ensuring your grazing muzzle is clear from feed, sand or dirt build up. It is a good idea to clean your grazing muzzle once a week.

Please find below our recommended fitting guide and fitting tips:
  1. Ensure the Greenguard logo is facing forward with 3 slots running across the front of the horse / pony nose.
  2. Attach all 4 straps to your halter – 1 on the noseband, 2 on either side and 1 at the rear. Ensure the buckles are on the outside section of the strap.
  3. Adjust the straps so that the muzzle sits parallel to the horse / pony grazing area. The muzzle should sit approximately 1 inch away from the horse / pony mouth. Ensure the muzzle is not fitted up against the horse / pony teeth. This is important as you don’t want it sitting too low where there is a lot of movement of the muzzle and you don’t want it too tight where it is
  4. Watch your horse / pony for 10 minutes and in this time you should see the horse/pony moving and learning how to graze with the muzzle

    Perfect! 5 stars

  2. Vicki (verified owner)

Much nicer than the regular muzzle. Just need to adjust until it fits right, but very happy with it.

  3. Linda M. (verified owner)

    Good quality

  4. Trikkelle (verified owner)

This has been a game changer! I have previously tried nylon muzzles but my horse appeared majorly depressed. Whereas she doesn’t seem to notice the Green guard muzzle and looks happier than ever. It’s been the only thing to stop her from crib biting, and she has to spend longer grazing to preoccupy her time. So glad I saw the ad for this product.

  5. Carly P. (verified owner)

    excellent product!

  6. Sally (verified owner)

My horse would always get out of previous grazing muzzles within an hour or two. This muzzle has been a savior for me this spring as my horse keeps it on! Having greater clearance around the nostrils and a more open feel, maybe a little more grass access, means he is more comfortable wearing and keeping it on. There was some initial rubbing from the back of the muzzle which I remedied with a wool protector.

  7. Jessica W. (verified owner)

Very happy with the muzzle, far superior to the cheaper options on the market

  8. Anonymous (verified owner)

    Excellent product

  9. Joanne F. (verified owner)

These muzzles fit really well and are an absolute godsend. My horses can be out in a paddock full of spring grass and still look trim & terrific. Saves me a fortune on hay as I don’t have to put them in the dirt paddock.

Works really well, but does tend to rub under the chin if left on for long periods. We solved this by adding a soft material pad there and that fixed it.

  11. Terri (verified owner)

Best product ever for chunky monkeys!

  12. Susan (verified owner)

Seems much nicer for the horse than other muzzles and was well-accepted by my mare. Made turnout possible for her so I’m a fan. I do feel that for over $100 I shouldn’t have to be wrapping the straps in tape; they should come with extra keepers.

  13. Danielle Harvey (verified owner)

The best grazing muzzle on the market! Thank you.

  14. Anna S. (verified owner)

    Seems comfortable 🙂

  15. Judy Bragg (verified owner)

Horse does not eat but it’s a great design

  16. George Christie (verified owner)

Awesome muzzles, work better than others and NO rubbing!

  17. Paula (verified owner)

Great muzzle – very tough, doesn’t rub my horse and unlike some other muzzles he can’t get it off!

  18. Rachel (verified owner)

Bucket is quite large but horse and owner get used to it.

  19. Vicki (verified owner)

THE best grazing muzzle on the market

  20. Fuller D. (verified owner)

Price is a little high…..but you pay for what you get

  21. Dianne Osborne (verified owner)

    Works great

  22. Victoria B. (verified owner)

Pony is so much happier in this muzzle. Excellent quality.

  23. Krystal (verified owner)

While it is an efficient muzzle in terms of restricting grazing, I have found that for the small riding pony it is for, the sides do not come up long enough particularly on the front of the nose. As a result, the pony is able to work it down until it either becomes stuck in his mouth or dangling around his neck. Additionally, I bought a pink pony size muzzle for a 13.2hh pony and have found the front nose strap is rubbing against her nose, causing sores. As a result, I have had to remove it and alter it with additional material to prevent this.

  24. Nikki B. (verified owner)

Best grazing muzzle around, horse gets no feeling of claustrophobia and so can concentrate on urgent business of plucking grass blade by blade! Also does not get sodden so less likely to rub. Any horse that can eat out of a slow feed hay net will not be distressed by this equipment. 3 time the price of other muzzles but worth it.

  25. Beth (verified owner)

Fantastic muzzle. The only muzzle that isn’t destroying within a week.

  26. Maria Furina (verified owner)

Absolute game changer, no need to lock that old pony up anymore, they can happily and safely graze now with the other horses.

  27. Emily R. (verified owner)

    Great quality

  28. Ken Horne (verified owner)

Our minature pony has been using this muzzle for a month now. Still a little frustrated that she can’t get as much grass as she could with her previous muzzle. (She was wearing a huge hole in the middle of it within a couple of months of getting it). This muzzle is wearing well. Fits well onto her halter with the straps. She has not been able to rub the muzzle off either. She wears it every day for about 4 to 5 hours. She could not go in the paddock without it as we have green grass all year long. She will drink while wearing it too. The muzzle is easy to clean. I just rinse the base in water, and leave to dry overnight.

  29. David (verified owner)

When our vet said we needed a muzzle due to laminitis, we were mortified and expected battles getting it on our chestnut mare. To our surprise, she has no problems tolerating this muzzle and even willingly puts her head into the muzzle for her daily grazing time. It has been a game changer.

  30. Andrea C. (verified owner)

Slowly introducing my mare to the muzzle .. she’s still not a fan of it but gradually leaving it on for longer periods. Took a while for myself and another agistee to work the straps out but other than that, it’s great.

  31. Angel (verified owner)

Happy with it as I have always been.

  32. Hilary Dortmans (verified owner)

These muzzles are great. They stay in place & still allow the horse to eat.

  36. ruth (verified owner)

Straps don’t last very long so end up using twining.

  37. Leticya M. (verified owner)

Horse is very accepting of this muzzle compared to other products on the market.

  38. Anonymous (verified owner)
